Type of Filtration System

Whether you are looking to purchase an Atomstack air purifier for laser engraving, cutting or for your rotary engraver, there is a lot to consider. You may want to think about how often you use the engraver and what types of materials you will be working with before you start searching for the perfect unit for your needs. In the end, the cost of a good filtration system can be an investment but if you choose carefully you could have one for decades.

Filtration systems come with a variety of features that you might not expect from just looking at them or hearing about them on TV. For example, some have a built in PM2.5 detection port that can tell you when it is time to replace the filter element. There are also units that can be used with a COVID-19 testing kit to help you determine the level of contaminants in your workspace.

Some systems have a passive first filter that removes large particles by allowing them to drop out of the airflow and into a tray or by running them over a coarse filter. This reduces the amount of time you need to spend cleaning up after each operation and can extend the life of your filters.

What Type of Filtration System Does the Atomstack Laser Engraver Use?

Many filtration systems come with an electrical interface that connects to your laser so that when you turn on the laser, the filtration system activates too. This eliminates the possibility of forgetting to start the filtration system and endangering your health or causing damage to your equipment.

Most filtration systems require a fairly substantial amount of electricity to operate and some even brush up against the 20 amp limit on most 110-120 volt circuit breakers. You will need to make sure you have a dedicated circuit that will be able to handle both your laser(s) and your filtration system or plan on using multiple circuits.

Many systems allow you to change the amount of CFM (cubic feet per minute) that they generate. This is important because too much or too little may cause your laser(s) to overheat or shorten the life of your filters. Some BOFA systems include a reverse airflow feature that works with the charcoal filters to keep them from clogging up. This does not eliminate the need to replace your filters but it can greatly extend their life.

NOISE: Most filtration systems create quite a bit of noise. This is due to the motor and the fact that they are pulling air through the filters. This is not a deal breaker but something to keep in mind.

The Atomstack air assist system is compatible with all Atomstack laser engraving machines. The system comes with a 10-30L/min adjustable air pump, two high-precision moulded nozzles, goggle lenses and an air duct. The unit is easy to install and takes five minutes to be ready for use.
