While full lace wigs are natural looking due to the lace base, some are better than the rest. More affordable full lace wigs and lace fronts are flooding the market. However, more is not always better. With so many women in love with lace wigs, there are many companies that sacrifice quality for quantity. If you end up getting a less than stellar full lace wig, there are a number of things you can do to give it a more natural look.

Tweeze the hairline

The hairline of a full lace wig is the tell-tale sign of a wig or not. The goal of a lace wig is to create a natural hairline. Unfortunately, some manufacturers add too much hair to the hairline. This gives the wig an unnatural appearance as the natural hair progresses in density. You have two options.

The first option is to go to a professional lace wig shop or manufacturer to have them alter the density of your human hair lace wig. They will be able to customize the density as much as they can for the already created full lace wig. This will be quite expensive, but you will get the best results. If you will end up paying for the alteration as much as you did for the wig, seriously consider option two.

In the privacy of your own home, you can pluck your hairline to the desired density. First, brush all the hair out of the lace wig and put it into a ponytail. This will allow you to see your hairline better without more hair getting in the way. Then you can start pinching strand by strand in the first row of the cord. You’ll want to wax alternate rows so you don’t tear off an excess section. Every now and then, be sure to try on your wig to see if the density is at the desired level or not. It’s better to take your time, go slow, and check your progress than to use tweezers. Once the hair is removed, you cannot replace it on your own.

Wash with apple cider vinegar

Synthetic lace wigs often have a sheen that alerts everyone that it is a wig. This rinse is a great option for synthetic or human lace wigs. Apple cider vinegar will remove shine, soften hair, and gently cleanse it. Just add 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of water that you wash your lace wig in. If you wash your wig in a container that holds 8 cups of water, add 8 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Why not regular vinegar? The acidity of the vinegar helps remove the dirt from the styling products from the wig. However, it does not soften the hair. The natural acidity and enzymes in the apple will soften your hair and remove the shine from your full lace wig.

Brush with baking soda

After drying the lace wig, brush it with a light pinch of baking soda. Baking soda works in the same way as apple cider vinegar by reducing shine. Put a teaspoon of baking soda on the brush and brush through the lace wig. Make sure to brush evenly and completely on the lace wig. This will allow the shine to be the same throughout.

Baking soda is also a great way to quickly remove shine from your full lace wig when you are on the go. Did you spray too much glitter on the wig? Forgot to wash the lace wig and now it’s too late? Just brush with baking soda for quick and effective results.
