In our current society, one of the most common problems experienced especially by our teens today is premarital sex that results in unwanted pregnancy. Pregnancies that one did not want to happen but simply happened due to the aggressiveness and irresponsibility of the person. Why engage in sex if you don’t want to take responsibility for your actions, especially when your future is at stake?

Knowledge about birth control is very important in this situation. Some say that abstinence is one of the best ways to prevent pregnancy. For me, as experienced by some of my friends, it only decreases the chance of getting pregnant, but it does not mean that one is safe and secure from pregnancy. Even if a person tries it only for the first time, she can still get pregnant. Perhaps, and surely, the best way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy is to educate yourself about birth control. Not having sex is the best way to prevent pregnancy. This is what religious people believe. One must be or must be a virgin until the day of their marriage. But in our time today, with the attitudes of our teenagers, sexual intercourse has been a part of their daily routines, especially for those who are in an intimate relationship. Another method of birth control is the use of contraceptives. Contraceptives such as condoms, birth control pills, and other methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy. This is for those people who considered sex as a need, not just a want.

I had premarital sex at the age of 19. Sex is great, I admit, but thinking about the increased responsibilities later, it made me change my personal view on sex. It taught me to understand that sexual relations must be taken seriously and with due understanding of its consequences and effects in the future. It must be well planned so that one is not forced to do the most unfair thing that some victims of unwanted pregnancies did, the abortion of the innocent child. The right decision must be made here to avoid regrets. This is very risky for women. Physical health must be considered here because she could die in the process.

These are just a few of the preventative birth control methods. Or one will follow them to better have regrets in the future. Using birth control is good, but not having sex until you’re ready is much better. Let’s all be responsible.
