Currently, a bit must resist either a 0 or a 1, but in quantum computing it is possible for bits to register 0 and 1 simultaneously. When a quantum bit assumes its value, it is impossible to copy the bit without the sender noticing. This is because copying the bit would cause its state to change. Therefore, any security threat would be detected immediately, at the bit level. Internet users would always know when their security or privacy has been compromised, making surreptitious attacks impossible.

Quantum technology is currently being developed that will help make this form of consumer protection a reality in the near future. Quantum computing could be helping improve cybersecurity for everyone in the next 20 years.
