The 80s are back in fashion
The decade some would rather forget will be a major influence on menswear this year and that will mean faded jeans with a frayed bottom, pastel colors, and square shoulder jackets will make a comeback. Believe it or not, at fashion shows some wrinkles were ironed on jeans too!
Bermuda
Shorts aren’t every man’s idea of the perfect formal wear item, and it’s fair to say that opinion has always been divided on men wearing shorts anywhere outside of the gym or a sports field. However, this year stylish and tailored shorts were showcased in many of the designer’s collections.
The vertical stripes will be large
Vertical stripes appeared on many of the runways this year, so expect to add some striped numbers to your wardrobe next season. In fact, stripes could be on just about anything this summer, including stylish short-sleeved shirts, joggers, suits, and shirts.
Tonal Color Matching
Many of the outfits worn on the runways used the tonal color scheme to great effect. In other words, complementary shades from head to toe. This year you won’t be able to throw away the first thing that comes out of the wardrobe, because all the boys will be wearing matching outfits in the same shade this summer.
Printed shirts
Graphic prints were also very evident at trade shows, especially prints on t-shirts. Louis Viton specialized in tropical prints this year, while right now you can find some very eye-catching graphics on the shirts of designer brand stores like Kenzo and Billionaire Boys Club.
Black and white are back
One of the big menswear trends for the SS18 season will be wearing all white. The opposite was also evident in the European fashion shows with a lot of black as well. However, the two were rarely mixed, so we won’t be going back to the two-toned look just yet!
Olives and moss
And finally, to go with a host of camo patterns, there was a definite trend towards colors with a military twist, like khaki, beige, and moss green. Fortunately, brands like Stone Island already have a good selection of coats, shirts, and pants in these types of shades, so you won’t have a problem keeping up with this particular SS18 menswear trend.
