Congratulations! Your first anniversary is coming up! yahoo!

Now, gift ideas… where to start? What if your partner is the “need nothing” type, someone who’s hard to shop for anyway, regardless of whether it’s a first anniversary? What if he/she is not very sentimental, but you still want to recognize him/her with something special? After a year together, you have a lot to celebrate. There are some great ideas for celebrating what’s special to the two of you.

The first anniversary is traditionally known as the “paper” anniversary. For something unique, why not make a card? Something with a quote, a poem or a personal note can say whatever you want. You can add another gift or experience (ie a trip, dining out, etc.), or leave it as is.
Some other “paper” wedding gift ideas:

1. Tickets to a game or event

2. A book

3. Movie tickets

4. Gift certificates

5. A First Year Wedding Favor or Scrapbook

6. An invitation to do something

7. Newspaper clipping from the day you got married

8. A personal letter

Another “first anniversary” idea is a mini-honeymoon or vacation. If you have the time and money, you can return to your destination wedding venue. Going back to the same place with the same smells, sounds, and sights can be a lot of fun to see how you feel with a 1-year perspective together. If you can’t afford to do that, you can take a weekend off and play together. Put on music from your wedding, serve the drinks and food you ate at your wedding, and hang out together. They could do something together. Then go out to see a movie, or stay home and share an intimate night. Light some candles. Buy yourself a sexy new piece of lingerie and surprise your partner when they get home…or wrap yourself in paper and a bow. Then you have the “paper anniversary” and a crazy fun experience to share, all in one.

You can also dress up and go out. Send your partner an invitation (mail it or put it in their things) a few days beforehand for a night out somewhere fancy, or a night out dressed up and staying home. Dress for fun, dress up and go somewhere fancy or really casual. Go to McDonald’s in a cocktail dress and tuxedo, for example. Then to the park to sit by the pond in the moonlight. Something random and fun shared between the two of you can start an anniversary tradition.

Regardless of what you choose to do, the first anniversary is significant and special. You made it and you’re still for more, that’s a big step together as a couple. Taking the time for a little more creativity can show your partner that you are just as happy and excited as you were on your wedding day.
