Due to its high density and high-end boutique shops, combined with fine-dining restaurant clusters, Seminyak has quickly become one of Bali’s most renowned tourist precincts. In addition to lively shopping strips with popular restaurants, Seminyak is home to a number of bars, craft houses, independent furniture makers, and antique shops.

Seminyak has been tagged as Bali’s best destination and party spot in several notable magazines. Land and accommodation prices are among the highest in Bali and luxury hotels and spas abound. The vibe of the area is best described as laid back sophistication.

Renowned as Bali’s boutique capital, it’s hard to believe that just ten years ago this area was awash in rice fields and far from the elite tourist precinct it is today. The area from Kuta in the south to Legian and Seminyak in the north is heavily congested with traffic with only two highways running in and out of these coastal communities. Although there are a multitude of taxis and transportation options available, visitors are encouraged to travel on foot.

Seminyak and Petitenget beaches are tourist magnets with endless stretches of sand in both directions, as far as the eye can see. The area’s beaches are noticeably calmer than those further south around Kuta, and the sunsets are a must-see during your stay. Several popular bars and restaurants, such as the world famous Ku De Ta, are located here and offer great spots for pre-dinner cocktails or an ice cold beer.

In the area there are countless facilities for spa treatments and massages. The spa experiences are of a high standard and offer luxurious and sophisticated settings. Despite being more expensive than other places in Bali, you will find that these services are much cheaper than what you would pay elsewhere in the world.

The food on offer at this northern beach venue is nothing short of world class. If you choose to splurge on just one special meal while in Bali, look no further than the multitude of great dining options around Seminyak. Prices are high by Bali standards, but still excellent value for money when viewed on an international scale. The best restaurants are always packed in the evening, so get there early or make a reservation.

Petitenget is where the chic Seminyak vibe continues north. The rise of several posh spots in the Petitenget precinct, including some of Bali’s best restaurants, indicates that this area now serves as an extension of South Bali’s trendy playground.

Canggu, another remarkably attractive area, is still home to widespread rice fields despite its proximity to Seminyak and Petitenget. As the region continues to grow, a number of luxurious villas have begun to appear on the landscape along with the famous Canggu Club.

Where to stay in the Seminyak area:

Clio Studio Apartments: A modern boutique hotel with thirteen rooms decorated in a minimalist style. There are 5 studio rooms and 4 varieties of loft spaces available for guests. Clio is excellent value for money by Seminyak standards, with prices starting as low as US$80/night. Facilities include WiFi, flat screen TVs, stereo system and wonderful friendly service.

Cicada Luxury Townhomes: It consists of 6 contemporary semi-detached houses with one and two floors with interiors of avant-garde design. Each home has a large outdoor tropical bathroom, private gardens, and full-service kitchen. Most have private plunge pools. The complex offers 24-hour room service and security, as well as a 25-meter lap pool and Jacuzzi. This property offers excellent value for money and comes highly recommended from US$170/night.

The shelter:This modern-style, 160-room hotel began operations in mid-2009. As an alternative to the multitude of villa accommodations in the area, The Haven offers regular hotel rooms and suites with only a few private villas. The property is located on Seminyak’s main drag, though once inside, guests happily ignore the busy street outside. Special packages and discounts are available throughout the year.

Accommodation options are virtually endless in the Seminyak area. If you are looking for a high level of sophistication in a quiet and relaxed area, this is where you want to be in Bali. Everything you could possibly need is at your fingertips, and this is my place of choice for your next Bali vacation.
