1. Eating 4 to 6 small, frequent meals a day helps increase energy levels. When you feed your body at regular intervals (every 3 to 4 hours), you will have peak energy levels. No midday fatigue and no feeling like you’re ready to drop onto the couch at 5pm !!

2. Burns extra calories and body fat. It sounds crazy, but you have to eat more to burn more calories.

Now this does not mean 4 to 6 “junk” meals a day. It means reasonably sized meals that include protein, carbohydrates, and a LITTLE fat. When you restrict calories by not eating, your body refuses to give up the extra body fat. Therefore, you must give your body what it wants and it will burn calories more efficiently.

3. Eating frequently keeps blood sugar levels high throughout the day. Keeping food in your body at regular intervals prevents you from feeling that crash when you are hungry. Then you head to the nearest vending machine to get your blood sugar levels back. The trick is not to let your blood sugar drop in the first place!

4. Your mood will remain stable throughout the day. You may not realize it, but food affects your mood. When you don’t eat or eat healthy, your mood changes dramatically. That’s your body desperately trying to tell you something, and your loved ones and co-workers get the worst of it!

5. By eating frequently, you will avoid feeling full. By eating only a few times a day, our natural reflex is to gorge ourselves. Then we endure excruciating pain and then we become addicted to television. Eating 4-6 times a day will eliminate that completely.

6. The digestive system works better. Our digestive systems are not designed to be overloaded. In fact, overeating or binge eating is not healthy for all internal organs. Give your body food in small amounts and your insides will appreciate it much more.

7. Eating frequently maintains adequate calories in the body. Most of us really don’t eat enough. We are all running with a full daily schedule, stress, trying to exercise (or not), and hoping to get it all done in just a few meals a day. And we cannot understand why we are not healthy or why we are not losing weight. Focusing on small, frequent meals ensures that we get the full amount of calories we need.

8. You have no choice but to focus on good nutrition. Let’s face it, eating more often takes time and thought. But it is very possible and when you think a bit about what you are doing, you tend to do better. You will be surprised how quickly you will start to learn about nutrition when you focus a little on it.

9. You have no choice but to listen to your body. Once you start eating frequently, your body will respond quickly. Very soon you won’t be able to go more than 3 hours without eating, that’s a good thing. Your body will tell you what it needs and when.

10. Eating this way will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone. What do you have to lose except weight? Test yourself with this method and see what happens. It will also be a great conversation piece.
