The Griffith Observatory – It all started with a wonderful man, Griffith J. Griffith.

An exquisite building that draws the beauty of the stars to Earth, it sits on Mount Hollywood and is wholly owned and managed by the City of Los Angeles. The unique appearance of the Griffith Observatory has made it a popular landmark and one of the top destinations in Los Angeles. It is named after Colonel Griffith J. Griffith, who very generously donated the money for the observatory.

The observatory also features 60 space-related exhibits crafted to spark your imagination; the best part is the largest astronomically accurate image ever produced called “The Big Picture” which apparently encloses a million galaxies.

At the Hall of the Eye and Hall of the Sky exhibits, there is a live display of how human nature observes the sky and objects in the sky, such as the planets, the moon, the comet, the sun, and many more.

Tea Samuel Oschin Planetarium It is the main attraction of the Griffith Observatory. A 20-30 minute experience inside the planetarium will give you the feeling of being so close to heaven.

Tea Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater offers a free show with a 23-minute documentary on the history and mission of the Observatory. The Deep Space and Edge of Space exhibits are where we are shown the Milky Way galaxy, the planets, our Earth and the solar system, bits of the sky, and much more.

The view of the Los Angeles skyline from the outside terrace is the best experience here and you definitely don’t want to miss this.

You can approach the observatory through the Vermont or Fern Dell entrances. Parking at the Observatory is very limited and the busiest times are usually on weekends.

Since 1935, when it first opened, admission has been free, in accordance with Griffith’s will.
