You can stop those pushy and annoying bill collectors, legally. Struggle! Public Law 95-109 gives you the power to do so. This law was written and enacted for you, the consumer. Public Law 95-109 gives you the legal right to do many things related to your credit.

Understand that a collector is just that, a collector. Nothing else. His job is simply to persuade you to repay the borrowed money. It is absolutely nothing personal. So keep it that way! However, bill collectors can be persistent and unrelenting, causing unnecessary stress. You can put an end to it once and for all. Just follow these steps.

1) When you receive a collection call, immediately obtain the name of the agency, the address of the agency, and the creditor it represents.

2) Inform the agency that you no longer wish to receive calls to your home or workplace.

3) Follow up with a written request that they cease and desist further contact.

4) Send this request in writing by certified mail, return receipt requested. This ensures that they received your letter.

It is important that the above steps are followed correctly. It is a legal way to stop collection calls, granted through Public Law 95-109. But remember that this will only put an end to these calls, it will not make the debt go away. The debt was incurred and should be treated accordingly.
