The NFL’s Dallas Cowboys are fan favorites within the Texas limits and far beyond. For over forty years the team has performed at a consistently high level. In addition to their great success on the field, “America’s Team” has had just as much success off the field and is considered one of the most valuable sports teams in North America. Behind every great sports franchise is an identifiable symbol. The Dallas Cowboys are lucky to have two very identifiable symbols: the world-famous Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and the team’s mascot, Rowdy.

Rowdy became the official mascot of the Dallas Cowboys in 1996 and is dressed like a real cowboy, complete with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. He proudly wears the unique Dallas Cowboys star on the chest and sleeves. Rowdy’s primary duty as the team’s mascot is to create excitement on game day at Texas Stadium. To cheer the fans up and get them involved in the game, Rowdy drives his four-wheeler, holds up signs that read “Go Cowboys,” and has fun throwing T-shirts into the stands for the fans to catch. He also amuses himself in the games by making fun of the opponents. Rowdy participates in all Dallas Cowboys home games and select road games. During the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp, Rowdy is around as the host of Rowdy’s Kid Zone. He plays with the kids at camp by taking them through obstacle courses, introducing them to the Cowboys experience (consisting of a football pitch, field goal, and more), and encouraging them to sing for their favorite player.

The Dallas Cowboys are an integral part of the community in and around Dallas. Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are a common image in the community that raises awareness for different causes. Rowdy himself, an easily identifiable symbol of the Dallas Cowboys football team, is also happy to do his part for the community. As part of raising awareness for the Cowboys community, Rowdy attends and participates in over 300 events a year. He participates in events like the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, the Salvation Army, and the Special Olympics. In addition, he visits retirement centers, hospitals, schools, birthday parties, and grand openings. Rowdy is a highly visible part of the Dallas community.

Another very important part of Rowdy’s duties is attending the annual NFL mascot convention. Held in a select city each year, the mascots of the NFL come together in a convention to discuss and share ideas regarding the promotion of pet awareness and mischievous pet acts. Being good at what you do can also have its rewards. In 1999 and 2001, Rowdy had the honor of being selected as one of the NFL’s Top Mascots when he represented the Dallas Cowboys in the Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. There, he not only participated in the NFL Pro Bowl game, but was also involved in Battle of the Grid Iron, Special Olympics, and much more.

Needless to say, Rowdy has a huge following and has reproduced himself in a number of ways. Rowdy’s image can be found as a stuffed figure or as a brat head cover. There is also a Rowdy Christmas stocking and Rowdy wall hooks. These items and many more Dallas Cowboys memorabilia can be found at Dallas-Cowboys-apparel.com.

Rowdy is a visible symbol of Cowboys football. Help bring excitement and team spirit to the game, as well as highlight events and help efforts in your community. There’s no question that with all the passion and inspiration Rowdy brings to the field and community, he more than lives up to his name.
