Some of us are born with naturally thin lips and others have lips that have become thinner as they age. As we age, our collagen production slows and this can cause lips to lose volume. Thin lips can make the face look less vibrant and older than it really is, but dermal fillers will plump us up, giving us the luscious lips we seek. So whether our lips have always been small and thin or have gotten that way with age, dermal fillers can restore them.

Looking in the mirror we can notice changes in our lips:

  • vertical lines – sometimes called smoker lines or lipstick lines
  • lost definition – the border known as the vermilion border has less definition towards the outside of the lips
  • volume losses – lack of volume in the lips
  • flatter philtrum ridge – lack of shape in the ridge between the upper lip and the nose
  • flat lips – less pronounced shape and cupid’s bow lacks definition

Many of us are not happy with the lack of volume in our lips; wanting more volume, a better shape, edge definition and to have more definition in the cupid’s bow. Dermal fillers are a perfect cosmetic treatment to re-fill your skin. A good aesthetic doctor will give you subtle and natural-looking results; plump, well-proportioned, and youthful, but they don’t look like they’ve received any treatment. The same dermal fillers that are injected to add volume are also used to shape the lips, and these treatments are often performed during the same procedure.

lip lines

These are sometimes called lipstick lines and are the fine vertical wrinkles that develop just above the lips. These lines appear when we pucker our mouths while smoking or drinking through straws, but as we age, they begin to become a more permanent fixture. Light botox treatment is often used to treat these frown lines.

puppet lines

These lines run from the corners of the mouth to the chin and are similar to smile lines. Dermal filler corrects these lines.

smile lines

These are also known as nasolabial folds, laugh lines, or parentheses, and are the wrinkles that run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. Dermal fillers are an excellent option to smooth these lines.

Dermal fillers will add volume and definition to the lips, and injections are completely controlled, allowing the client to choose whether they want a subtle, in-between or more dramatic look. Lip fillers can prevent and improve the signs of aging, leaving us happy to enjoy plumper, younger looking lips for longer.
