If you were to randomly ask ten people what a “shell” is, they would almost universally reply that it is a large wooden cabinet found in a dining room with dishes inside. Little or no thought would be given to the possibility that it could be a large wooden cabinet found in a kitchen. The funny thing is that the average kitchen is full of large cabinets. The stove, refrigerator, freezer, kitchen table, and in some cases even the washer and dryer are located in the kitchen. The problem is that aside from the kitchen table and chairs, most people don’t imagine a large wooden cabinet in a kitchen.

For utilitarian purposes, what better place than the kitchen for a cabinet that displays plates and glasses, cutlery, linens, special-use utensils, and cookware? Wood always brings warmth to kitchen decor and nothing could be warmer than a majestic wood cabinet lining a wall in a kitchen.

There are a variety of cabinet styles that would complement almost any kitchen design. From modern and contemporary to traditional or even antique finishes, the possibilities are endless. Furniture is an expression of you; a kind of signature and should always complement rather than detract. Obviously, a huge swanky wooden cabinet placed carelessly in the middle of the floor would be more of an eyesore than an accent, however, a smaller cabinet well designed and scaled to fit the room can add the perfect touch to an ordinary room.

Like bookcases, cabins come in open and closed styles. Before you make your purchase, consider what you will use it for. If you are a collector of trinkets or other collectibles, the open style is more suitable as a display place. Collections of cookbooks, small vintage utensils, and photographs could all find cozy homes in one of the gated models. They can be as ornate or as simple as your lifestyle. An old one is a great subject for popular stories about its origin and previous owners. It can become a home for a solitary plant or a stand for a small TV or kitchen stereo system.

The best thing about them is that they do not have to combine anything. The front does not compete with aluminum or porcelain coatings on appliances. Door or drawer pulls can be as simple as a round knob or as exquisite as an ornately decorated brass ring.

When you really start looking and seeing the variety out there, you may think that there are too many options for you to make a decision and stick with it. Don’t worry; the furniture will speak to you. Keep looking around you; Consider all the pros or cons of each piece of each booth you look at and eventually you’ll know which one should come into your home.

Aside from taking location measurements, it doesn’t take much thought to decide what to look for in a booth. Chances are you will find the right one and make it a part of your kitchen decor.
