There are many causes of osteoarthritis and climate and diet are among them. Not all of us can live in a warm Mediterranean climate, which helps keep our joints from getting cold and stiff. But we can all watch what we eat and drink as many of us are aggravating our condition with toxic products.

Three main types of food aggravate arthritis:

dairy products

Various acidic foods and drinks.

wheat products

Dairy products, such as milk, butter, and cheese, are difficult for the human body to digest. Cows have two stomachs, and the milk intended for their calves develops large bones and small brains. It’s not strictly for humans, especially if your body can’t copy it.

A speaker who talked about arthritis showed him the ear of his hands and knuckles, which were completely flexible. She drank a glass of milk and within 20 minutes her knuckles and joints had swollen and she couldn’t make a fist. She was allergic to cow’s milk.

Dairy products leave fat deposits in the body, upset the stomach and obstruct circulation. They also encourage the development of catarrh in children, which can lead to sinus and adenoid problems.

As a substitute you can try other milks and cheeses, goat’s milk, sheep’s milk or soy. They are much better for arthritics, also, you could say, for people with allergy problems, such as asthma.

Acidic foods, such as rhubarb and citrus, aggravate joints. Certain spicy fruits, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, are not good for the joints. Also carbonated soft drinks, alcohol and spicy foods and flavorings can cause acid to form in the stomach, which reaches the joints.

Many natural practitioners recommend that the arthritic should not eat any fruit and this is true in many cases. People with extreme arthritis should follow this regimen. However, many can do well by eating softer, non-acid fruits such as grapes, cherries, apples, pears, and bananas.

You should see how it goes. If your arthritis doesn’t improve, eliminate the fruit altogether.

The third thing, wheat, has become a staple of the western diet, but again it’s hard to digest. In many people it causes bloating and indigestion, which puts acid back into the blood and then into the joints.

An experiment that gave farm animals the choice of eating different grains found that they preferred other grains, such as oats, rye, barley, and corn to wheat, only eating wheat if nothing else was available.

We can learn a lesson from that and we should do the same. It is advisable to cut down on bread altogether, perhaps just once a day if necessary. Wheat problems add up, the more you have it.

If you feel like you need a bit of bread, you should consider switching to a light rye bread, oat-based breakfast cereal, and cutting back on wheat-based sandwiches and wheat pasta.

Meat products, such as beef, pork, and lamb, are quite acidic and cause some rashes on the shoulders and other joints. Ideally, eliminate them from your diet and only eat some free-range chicken and wild fish. Or, alternatively, eat more vegetarian meals and only eat meat once or twice a week.

You will feel better, you will be less bloated and your joints will improve.
