Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is a two-disc album by the Smashing Pumpkins, consisting of 28 songs in total. The album is known to be one of the band’s best albums. All 28 songs are magnificent and important as unique contributions to the album. After listening to all 28 songs thoroughly, there are 14 songs on this album that are real treasures.

For fans of the Smashing Pumpkins, the album is more than just another album to complete your collection. It marks a very significant moment in the journey of his beloved band. The album is the last Smashing Pumpkins album and it was during the tour for this album that Jimmy Chamberlain was exiled from the band. Although he had returned, he found that the band was no longer the same band it used to be. Now he and Billy Corgan are the ones who used to form a legendary band.

I would like to distinguish the songs on this album into two categories. The first category is full of songs that anyone can enjoy, while the second category is the songs that need devotion to enjoy.

Melon Collie’s theme song is presented as a beautiful and deep instrumental song played by piano. The nest song is Tonight, which is a great song most likely accompanied by the same great video. Next up is the song that presumably made Billy Corgan shave his head, Zero. This song not only functions as Corgan’s personal credo, but also becomes a radio hit and inspires the making of the Zero T-shirt. The next song is the already famous Bullet with Butterfly Wings which is the first hit on the album. The drumming on this album is obviously successful in attracting the listener’s attention. The next two songs are Galapagos and Muzzle, two similar but different songs. Both are emotional songs, which speak of love and sadness. The next song would be the best song on the album, Porcelina. This song is a masterpiece and worth listening to. More radio hits to come with Thirty-Three and 1979. The second is so popular that it still plays on the radio to this day. Tales of a Scorched Earth and Stumbeline are two contradictory songs. The first one is so distorted while the second one is a sweet ballad that will transport you with its melody. Then comes Starlight, a soft and emotional song as the closing theme of this category.

I won’t mention all the songs in the second category to cut things short. We Only Come Out at Night and Lilly (My One and Only) are two distinguished songs compared to other rock songs. Farewell and Goodnight is an exceptionally fun song as all the members take turns singing on this song. However, all the songs in this category are great songs that also deserve their listeners’ appreciation.

This album is worth listening to and everyone should not only buy it, but also listen to it every day for a month. By doing this, people will get to know each song on the album and then come to love and appreciate them.
