Trying to lose weight can be any woman’s (people) worst nightmare… add to that the excitement of a new baby… and it means DISASTER! How is it possible to care for a newborn, breastfeed, eat, sleep and lose weight? Let’s first say, no new mother should be on a diet! That being said, as always, watching and controlling WHAT you eat is still important to many, if not all, women.

With what I am going to explain to you, as a mother, I was able to weigh 110 pounds and have 9 abs when my son was 10 months old! I eat what he wanted… I can only imagine what a little control over the pasta and pizza would have given me!

You should try to eat as often as possible and eat the most balanced diet possible while caring for your newborn. Your newborn depends on your energy and your happiness. Try to eat snacks with fresh vegetables and fruits. These are not excuse snacks, which you can grab with one hand while you’re nursing. Be sure not to cut out carbs or protein, as they are an important part of living and breathing as a new mom. And never endure a protein-only diet!! This is very harmful!

Then what do you do? Instead of searching the internet for a diet or, in the most desperate situations, a pill that will fix everything, get out there!

Start once your doctor says it’s safe to exercise. Choose a time when the baby is happiest and most content. She may need to drive to a flat location. I live in the higher part of our city, so I drive to the local boardwalk. It is not necessary to have an expensive stroller to do these activities, although a jogger on three wheels is good J

The first thing to remember when you are trying to lose weight;

*NEVER INVEST IN SOMETHING UNTIL YOU KNOW IT WORKS FOR YOU*

The benefits lie in the balance between jogging and walking. A simple 25-minute walk with your newborn can turn into a fat-burning, self-esteem-boosting miracle that hasn’t cost a dime or robbed you or your baby of nutrients. The key to losing weight as a new mom with little time and energy to spare is to include it in your activities of daily living. There are very few mothers who do not take their babies for a walk.

There are 5 things to remember when you are a new mom who wants to lose weight;

1) Never, ever starve yourself: This actually causes you to gain more weight, as your body goes into a self-preservation mode, not to mention you’re probably starving your baby at the same time!

2) Every woman is different: We gain weight differently and lose it in many different ways. Never compare yourself to someone else, just your personal best!

3) Weight loss success is the balance between intense cardio and moderate cardio!

4) Your Babies’ Needs Come First and Foremost – That being said, it must become a balance in your life, too much devotion can lead to mother burnout syndrome!

5) Setting a monumental goal to physically achieve is one of the best weight loss programs our minds came up with!
