Bring a friend with you

Having a friend who also wants to get in shape and who is interested in taking the same regimen that you are interested in can make a big difference in how you can stay on top of things. A friend who you know will be waiting for you and interested in exercising can go a long way in helping you lose the weight you want. Ask around and see if anyone is interested in a training partner.

It’s never enough to say you’re going to exercise “a few times a week” or “more often.” When you have flexible deadlines like this, you’ll find you’re in a place where it’s all too easy to lose sight of them and let them slide. If you say you’re going to exercise twice a week, you’ll be inclined to put it off until Friday and Saturday and then lose a week, leaving you feeling demoralized. Instead, say that you will exercise on Tuesday and Thursday and keep it up!

Interest

If exercise doesn’t interest you and you’re not having fun with it, chances are you’re not going to go. There are many people who find that they are bored with racing down the track or can’t stand another mile on the bike. Why not look for something a little out of the ordinary, like indoor rock climbing, modern dance or racquetball? Find a form of exercise that excites and interests you. This will help you make exercise a regular habit.

Set goals

When you want to lose weight, start setting goals. Instead of losing an indeterminate amount of weight, you’ll find it’s much better to think about losing twenty pounds, getting stronger, or being able to walk or bike longer distances. Take your time and set some goals; it will definitely pay off in the long run, and you can reward yourself when you meet them. Understanding what your goals are will give you something to aim for and show you how fast or how slow you are reaching them.
