Ever since television was invented, the options we have in modern programming seem endless when compared to the options we had just 30 years ago. The options are only endless if you are willing to pay for them. There are less than ten free TV channels in most areas. If you’re willing to pay, you can have hundreds of channels to choose from. There are many ways that people choose to pay for television entertainment: cable, satellite dish, fiber video, and subscriptions to streaming media. In some areas, cable is not available, limiting television options and sometimes Internet availability. Internet media streaming requires the Internet, so making good use of subscriptions to such services can be difficult. Fiber video is a newer technology that is not available in certain areas. The benefit of satellite television is that it is available almost anywhere a satellite dish can be installed.

In the United States, there are only two major satellite television providers, Dish Network and DirecTV. They are both great providers. There are pros and cons of having service with any of them.

The advantages of Dish Network are that it offers more channels with lower prices in additional services such as DVRs, multiple receivers, access to your DVR from mobile devices, etc. Dish Network has the Hopper that allows the viewer to skip commercials from recorded shows. The downsides to Dish Network is that it doesn’t offer the Sunday NFL ticket and some popular TV channels.

The advantages of DirecTV are that the Sunday NFL ticket is available and they offer all the channels that are available. DirecTV also offers free installation on any number of televisions. The downsides to DirecTV are that the plans are a bit pricey, they don’t offer an option like Hopper, and there is a monthly fee for monthly maintenance.

When looking for options for television subscriptions, it is important to weigh your options. Consider your budget and what is available in your area. If you have a small budget and reliable Internet access, consider subscribing to a streaming media provider. If you have a small budget but minimal Internet access, satellite TV probably suits your needs better than any other service. Do a comprehensive comparison of satellite television companies serving your area. Weigh the pros and cons. Set up your services and enjoy!
