There are 4 main types of toilet paper on the market today. These include;

*Standard toilet paper

*Jumbo toilet paper roll

*Mini jumbo toilet paper roll

*Toilet paper interspersed

Standard toilet paper is the type of toilet paper seen in residential or office restrooms and typically comes packaged 48 rolls per box. In residential homes, a 3-ply toilet paper is typically used, and similarly, in a commercial setting, a 2-ply sheet. 2-ply, 400-sheet toilet paper is generally the most popular toilet paper among distributors and resellers. The 2-ply 700 sheet is becoming more popular as it is more cost effective per sheet compared to the 2-ply 400 sheet and has the same quality. There are also 850-sheet 1-ply toilet paper and 1,000-sheet 1-ply toilet paper that are used on a smaller scale. Due to the large number of sheets on a roll they are very inexpensive, however they suffer from quality as they are only 1 ply.

Giant toilet paper is usually seen in a public restroom and is packaged 8 to a cardboard box. For a 2 ply jumbo the rolls are typically about 30cm wide and about 300m when unrolled. For a 1-ply jumbo this doubles to 600m when unrolled. Mini jumbo toilet paper is a smaller version of the jumbo roll, typically measuring around 170m when unrolled into a 2-ply sheet. Jumbo toilet paper rolls are sometimes referred to as JRT rolls. Jumbo toilet paper is by far the cheapest form of toilet paper compared to standard rolls and sandwiched toilet paper.

Interleaved toilet paper is also seen in public toilets and is packed 36 in cardboard boxes. Like toilet paper and jumbo rolls, sandwiched toilet paper is manufactured in 1-ply and 2-ply. Normally there are 250 sheets per pack for 2-ply and 500 sheets for 1-ply. Instead of being on a roll, the paper was folded in layers, one on top of the other. Typically, sandwiched toilet paper is more expensive than standard toilet paper and jumbo roll, so it is not used often.

The softness of a toilet paper roll is normally proportional to the ply of the paper. When we talk about the layer of toilet paper, we mean how many layers the toilet paper contains. The two most common are 1-ply and 2-ply sheets. Single-ply toilet paper has one ply and double-ply toilet paper has two plies bonded together. The type of material used in the manufacture of toilet paper can also influence softness. Some toilet papers use a finer paper material to make the toilet paper softer. If the paper is recycled, it will not be as soft compared to paper derived from virgin material. Recycled toilet paper is significantly cheaper than virgin and is becoming increasingly popular as more attention is now paid to environmental sustainability.

There are a number of options when it comes to toilet paper dispensers. The most common form of dispensers are the following;

*Triple Line Toilet Paper Dispenser – This dispenser holds 3 standard toilet paper rolls, one on top of the other. The paper is manually dispensed by the user.

*Jumbo Single Roll Dispenser – This dispenser holds one jumbo roll of toilet paper and is manually dispensed by the user

*Double Jumbo Toilet Roll Dispenser: This dispenser holds two jumbo rolls of toilet paper side by side and is manually dispensed by the user

*Sandwich Toilet Tissue Dispenser – This dispenser holds approximately 4 packs of sandwich tissue, stacks vertically and is manually dispensed by the user.

There are 6 main types of paper hand towels on the market today. These include;

*Ultra-thin paper hand towels

*Thin line paper hand towels

*Extra large paper hand towels

*Compact hand towels

*Hand towel on a roll

*Center feed hand towel

Slim line and ultra-thin paper towels are typically seen in a public or commercial restroom and are typically packaged between 2,400 and 4,000 sheets per box, depending on the manufacturer. The sheet size for an ultra slim towel is usually 24 x 24 cm and similarly for a slim line 23 x 23 cm. Although the slim line towel is slightly smaller, its circumference is wider in cross section. That is why different paper towel dispensers are required for each product. I would find that an ultra-thin paper towel would fall out of the slim-line dispenser quite easily due to the reduced width. On the other hand, a slim line paper hand towel would be too wide to fit into an ultra slim paper towel dispenser. The ultra-thin paper towel is typically made in 2 plies, making it considerably more expensive than the slim-line paper towel. Extra large paper hand towels are just a larger, more expensive version of the ultra-thin paper towel. They usually have dimensions of 24 x 37 cm.

Compact towels are on the smaller end of the spectrum in the paper hand towel family. They are very popular in the medical and dental industry with nurses and dentists and are typically packaged 2,400 per box. The compact towel is designed to fit into a smaller profile dispenser, making it ideal for confined wall spaces. The size of compact hand towels varies considerably from manufacturer to manufacturer. Common sizes include 8″ x 10″ and 7.5″ x 11″.

The rolled towel is another alternative to the sandwich towel and is commonly seen in public and commercial restrooms. Roll hand towels are typically made in 80 or 100m rolls and are packed 16 to a box. The roll is approximately 19 cm long. The user manually pulls the roll towel from the dispenser and tears off the paper using the teeth of the dispenser. For this reason, there is often more waste with these types of hand towels, as the user tends to remove more paper towels than necessary. There are also larger rolls that are used in auto-cut dispensers and measure between 200 and 300m. Packed 6 per box. Auto-tear dispensers are used to ensure automatic dispensing of paper and minimize waste.

The center feed hand towel is the ideal hand drying format in markets such as manufacturing and food processing, clubs, education and other facilities that require a high capacity hand towel solution. The center feed towel as standard is manufactured in 300m rolls and are packed 4 per carton. The roll is normally 19-20 cm long. The difference between center feed and roll hand towel is that the paper is fed through the core of the roll.

There are a number of options when it comes to paper towel dispensers. The most common form of dispensers are the following;

*Ultra-Thin Paper Towel Dispenser: Fits 24 x 24 cm ultra-thin hand towels and is manually dispensed by the user

Slim Line Paper Towel Dispenser – Fits thin line paper hand towels wider than 9″ x 9″ and is manually dispensed by the user

*Compact Paper Towel Dispenser – Fits 7.5″ x 10″ compact hand towel and is manually dispensed by user

*Roll Hand Towel Dispenser: Fits 80m or 100m paper hand towel and is manually dispensed by user

*Auto Cut Hand Towel Dispenser – Fits one 200m paper hand towel and dispenses automatically to minimize waste.

*Center Feed Paper Towel Dispenser – Accommodates 300m paper hand towels and is manually dispensed by user
