Alabama Crimson Tide football is tied with Notre Dame and the University of Southern California for the most college football national championships of all time with a dozen. Needless to say, many of those titles were earned under the leadership of legendary Crimson Tide coach “Bear” Bryant.
Bryant-Denny Stadium is named after former coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and former Alabama president George Denny. It is the fourth largest structure in the Southeastern Conference, as well as one of the top football stadiums in the Southeastern Conference. These days, Bryant-Denny can easily seat up to 101,821, and is the second-largest stadium in the SEC, the fifth-largest stadium in the nation, and the eighth-largest non-running stadium by seating in the world… simple. The fact that every Alabama home football game has sold out since 1988 is staggering.
Alabama Crimson Tide football is simply the best in SEC football history. They have more SEC football titles than anyone (21) (another 4 before the SEC was formed). Alabama has provided more Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks than any other college football program. They are:
Bart Starr (Green Bay Packers) won Super Bowls I and II, Joe Namath (New York Jets) captured Super Bowl III and Ken Stabler with the Oakland Raiders captured Super Bowl 11. Alabama is the only SEC team to win five consecutive SEC football titles (1971-1975).
In terms of great players, Alabama has had 92 first-team All-Americans. So far, nineteen former Tide coaches and players have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. They are the middle, Johnny Mack Brown (1923-25) and the linebacker, Cornelius Bennett (1983-86). Many former Alabama players went on to have great NFL careers. In reality, more quarterbacks from the University of Alabama have won the Super Bowl than quarterbacks from any other school.
