Are you a snorer? Did you know that your snoring deprives you of normal and peaceful dreams? Did you know that your snoring can leave you exhausted and out of focus during the day?

Causes of snoring

To know the best way to cure your snoring, you will need to understand what causes your snoring. This is different for everyone.

1. Weight – If you are overweight and especially obese, you are probably a snorer. In reality, the space in your respiratory tract is diminished. This makes a vibration between the soft palate and the uvula more likely. More resonance is added due to the additional meatiness of the air passages.

The solution to this is obvious but generally very difficult for those who are overweight. You already know: lose weight.

2. Sleep or relaxer medications: Taking something to help you relax before bed may help you sleep better, but you may feel too relaxed. If the throat muscles relax too much, blockages can occur and the result will be snoring.

The solution is, of course, to try not to take medication to help you sleep. Even ibuprofen and acetaminophen are included here.

3. Dairy Products: Anything that contains milk will create and accumulate mucus in the airways.

The solution: give up that plate of late-night ice cream.

4. Your bed and bedding: Sleeping on a bed that is too soft is bad enough, but add a very soft pillow and your throat muscles will not have a chance to stay firm.

The solution: buy a firmer, not too thick pillow. The less your neck bends due to a thick, fluffy pillow, the less likely you are to snore.

5. Sleeping position: You are less likely to sleep on your side than on your back.

The solution: obvious: sleep on your side. Do you have difficulty doing that? Use the oldest snoring trick in the book. Put a tennis ball in a sock and put it under you. When it rolls onto its back, it won’t stay there for long!

6. Smoking: this habit damages the cells that line the throat tissue. Cells eventually become unsuitable for normal respiration, let alone breathing at night when everything is relaxed. The irritation that is created contributes to snoring.

The solution: again obvious but very difficult: quit smoking.
