If you’re planning to buy one of the slimline Xbox 360 consoles and can’t decide between the 4GB and 250GB version, this review is for you. I highlight in this article the differences between the two versions of the consoles and what you should keep in mind when comparing 4GB vs 250GB.
Size: This is the main difference between the 4 GB and 250 GB versions of the systems. The 250 GB console gives you more space to download and save content than the 4 GB console; however, you can add two 16 GB external hard drives to the box (external drives must be formatted in FAT32).
Due to the 4 GB console size limitation, you may face the following issues:
1. You cannot install video games that require more than one disc to play due to the 4GB limitation.
2. Downloading DLC content over time would be impossible (DLC content is Xbox Live content that can be downloaded as game demos, full video games, and is usually large in size).
3. Games from the disc are prone to scratches, which eventually causes them to freeze.
4. You may also have trouble storing your media files over time.
5. Regular updates released by Microsoft to patch the box will reduce the amount of hard drive space available for use.
Design: If you’re more picky about case design, then the slim built-in 250GB hard drive has a smooth, glossy black finish; on the other hand, the 4 GB version is a matte black box. Perfectionists will most likely opt for the matte black case finish due to how easily the 250GB version can get dirty.
Both systems have built-in Wi-Fi and are Kinect-ready. You will still be able to stream video, music, play Xbox 360 games without installing to drive.
