In one of my previous articles, I showed you how you can embrace Sehwag’s simplicity and in this article, I’ll show you what you can learn from Glenn McGrath to succeed in internet marketing.

Again, my apologies to readers who don’t follow cricket, but I love the game and can’t help but include examples to explain concepts.

1. Consistency is king: Glenn Mcgrath was one of the most consistent fast bowlers of his day. I honestly doubt there are many bowlers who have been as consistent as Mcgrath, even when compared across generations.

The same applies to internet marketing. Look at the different things you are doing, see what works for you and do more of what works and avoid doing what doesn’t work.

2. Boring can be effective: McGrath was one of the most boring bowlers because he would often do the same thing over and over again. He would keep throwing the same line and length to the batter all day like a robot.

There are many Internet marketing tasks that are boring, but that does not mean that they are ineffective. For some writing articles is boring, for some building backlinks is boring, for some doing keyword research is boring, but they are still critical steps in your business.

Consider outsourcing boring tasks so you can focus on doing what you love and, more importantly, what is most effective for your business.

3. Be a patient fisherman: Mcgrath was much like a patient fisherman who would wait for the fish to reach the bait. In the five day game, he would keep plugging that line off the stump over and over again, until the batter gave up. McGrath simply refused to budge and ultimately emerged victorious.

How often in internet marketing do you stick with a method? There are times when, even though we know the strategy will pay dividends as long as we keep doing what we’re doing, we abandon it and chase the next big brilliant thing.

This happens because we get bored very easily and don’t realize that we are building a business or at least trying to build a business. Not all business building tasks will be fun and enjoyable, but they still need to be done.

I think this is one of the main pitfalls of internet marketers. We are constantly looking for something cool or entertaining to distract us from the realities of running a business. No wonder sales pages are littered with cash falling everywhere, ClickBank screenshots, PayPal sales, and images of sellers in different parts of the world enjoying their life.

What we don’t see or realize is that it takes a lot of work and sweat to get to that position.

And it’s not surprising that we end up chasing dreams instead of working towards them; letting the monkey in our brain mess up our focus and we end up giving all the excuses to our inner mind as to why this new product would be the only and probably the last product you would buy that would make you rich.
