On the south coast of Singapore is the wonderful island resort of Sentosa, one of the main tourist attractions of the city-state of Singapore. With more than 5 million visitors each year, it is only natural that Sentosa has several hotels to accommodate so many tourists and travelers.
With a full 2 kilometer stretch of sheltered beach and many other tourist attractions such as museums, golf courses, oceanariums and entertainment venues, Sentosa is one of the most popular properties in Singapore. It can act as an independent destination due to its many attractions. For all these reasons, the island resort has numerous hotels focused mainly on the 4 and 5 star range.
To date, there are seven (7) hotels and resorts on the former military post. The group of establishments is headed by a pair of first-rate 5-star hotels: the Rasa Sentosa Resort in Shangri-La and the Sentosa Singapore.
The Rasa Sentosa Resort is Sentosa’s only beachfront property overlooking the South China Sea, and is conveniently located at the western end of Siloso Beach. The 5-star hotel has 459 rooms, all with top-of-the-line furnishings. If access to a wide variety of water sports activities on the beach and at the water sports center isn’t enough for guests, they can always use the hotel’s free-form pool and a couple of outdoor hot tubs.
The Sentosa Singapore is the second of the 5-star Sentosa hotels. Its main attraction is the first garden destination spa in all of Singapore: Spa Botanica. Spa Botanica has mud pools, a meditation labyrinth, floatation pools and even Turkish steam baths, truly unique spa features that complement the spa treatments inside. This 214-suite property is spread over a wooded area of more than 27 acres.
While Sentosa has its own big guns, there are other alternative lodging establishments as well. For example, the Costa Sands Resort is a relatively small destination that has a few chalets along with 15 cabins that resemble those of kampong villages. This really gives the place an exotic feel. There is a 64-room property called the Treasure Resort, which is located just behind the iconic Merlion.
The recently opened Siloso Beach Resort is an accredited eco-friendly establishment. It has over 600 native Sentosa trees preserved within the facility, along with fruit trees, flowering plants, ferns, and other exotic plants later planted. The complex was specifically designed to protect these plants.
The Sentosa Hotel offer is completed by the Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa, a 121-room hotel with five-star facilities, and the Capella Singapore, a 112-room luxury-oriented establishment, developed by Pontiac Land and recently opened last March. 2009.
As you can see, Sentosa has a full complement of hotels to cope with the influx of 5 million people a year. With the island’s beaches, golf courses, aquariums, and other great tourist attractions, it’s only fitting that the island also boasts a bevy of world-class resorts and hotels serving only the best of the best. Some say that Sentosa can stand on its own. When it comes to the hotels on the island, that’s what it seems.
