Want to sell your World of Warcraft WoW account? You’re not alone; Hundreds of eBay accounts are offered every week. Unfortunately, Blizzard has been waging a war against the small seller lately and has used eBay’s VeRO policy to cancel auctions. Why Blizzard would bother hiring someone to specifically target individuals when big corporations are making millions is a mystery. Anyway, they have chosen to attack players who sell on eBay. This guide will show you how to make more money on your World of Warcraft auction and drastically reduce Blizzard’s ability to cancel your auction just before it sells.

The vast majority of accounts for sale on eBay carry some sort of disclaimer. While they may look legal and official, they are not worth “cutting and pasting”. Keep in mind that what you’re really selling is your username, password, and answer to a secret question. None of these elements are or could be copyrighted by Blizzard, nor do they violate any intellectual property laws. The only legal recourse Blizzard would have against anyone selling this information would be to terminate the account. It is very unlikely that Blizzard can or wants to do it. They are in business to make money and they don’t really care where it comes from. Again, don’t bother with the disclaimer, it’s a waste of time and won’t prevent your auction from being cancelled.

Once you’ve decided to sell your account, the first thing you need is an eBay account which will give you access to several key features: Buy It Now, One Day Auction and Best Offer. Don’t waste your time with seven-day auctions. You are simply inviting Blizzard to cancel your auction as it nears the end, frustrating everyone who was bidding and forcing you to re-post it and hope that people will come back and bid. The easiest way to get access to these features is to get verified, which costs $5. If you can’t get verified, you’ll need to buy .01 recipe or eBook seller reviews and abide by a few other rules imposed by eBay.

If you have an account that is a few days old with no comments, don’t flatter yourself. You will only get a fraction of what you would have received if you had taken the time to buy some reviews or get verified. Basically, you are asking someone to send you money electronically based on some screenshots or unverifiable claims. Would you send someone hundreds if their eBay account was 24 hours old? Most people would rather spend more on a smaller account than take the risk.

Once your eBay account allows you to use the Buy It Now, One Day Auction, and Best Offer features, you can use any of the following combinations to maximize your purchase price and prevent Blizzard from canceling your auction. I suggest the following: three days buy it now with the best offer feature. This does three things; First, it gives the buyer a sense of urgency due to time limits, sets the price bar, and allows them to accept offers below their purchase price. You will either get the offer you want, a buyout, or the auction will expire and you will relist it. Unless you have to have the money in a hurry, be patient. You may need to repost your auction a few times, but if that means getting a few hundred more for your account, it’s worth the extra expense.

Another strategy is to use one-day auctions. This allows bidding, but the 24-hour time limit prevents Blizzard from canceling your auction. Your VeRO application must be filed and processed, by which time your auction will be over. The advantage of one-day auctions is how often you can repost them; every 24 hours. Ebay’s default search function displays auctions in the order they are ending, earliest first. This means that your auctions will be constantly at the top of the list and a buyer must react instantly to get your account.

I do not recommend using the seven or ten day auction. This gives Blizzard ample opportunity to file a VeRO complaint and cancel your auction. Rest assured, Blizzard’s intention is to wait until they have bidders and upset everyone by canceling the auction.

By following this guide, along with a well thought out and detailed auction design, you’ll get hundreds more than the vast majority of sellers. Accounts sell in the $700-1k range all the time, and there’s no reason you can’t get your cut.
