1. Simple and Basic

The simplest types of beaded caps are those that have nothing fancy or unusual about them at all: they are just small, plain, metallic-toned caps with a hole in the center. These are best used to keep the beads where they’re supposed to be and make your pieces look a bit more ‘finished’, as while they do an excellent job of making sure your work looks more professional, it actually they are not pieces in their own right. Wear them with more ornate beads, or ones you want to draw particular attention to; think of them as a frame.

two. Floral gold filigree

These bead caps are more pleasing to the eye than plain ones, which is both a blessing and a curse: on the one hand, they’re much more aesthetically pleasing on their own, but on the other, they could detract from or clash with an embellishment. or complex pearl. Use them when you want to frame and display large but simple beads, and avoid them for the more patterned ones. These are probably the easiest type of bead caps to get your hands on, and are available anywhere that sells jewelry making supplies.

3. Long Gold Tubular

There are some bead caps that are used almost as beads in their own right, almost always on the ends of necklaces. They are great to use as a kind of “buffer” between the strung beads and the clasp lining, as they make everything look finished and polished, while making tying easier and preventing movement of the beads on the thread. Don’t be tempted to wear these anywhere other than on the ends of strings or perhaps as part of a pair of earrings, however, like elsewhere, they risk looking a bit out of place or too fussy.

Four. Large and Decorative

The more unique types of caps can hardly be called “beaded caps”: they are more like centerpieces in their own right. You can find this type of cap in a variety of designs, from acorn caps to Mickey Mouse ears, and everything in between. Use them sparingly and remember that they really should be an integral part of the finished piece – they are too flashy and individual to simply be used as accessories, and too many of them together risk looking overly messy.
